Well, today I had a dr.s appointment, & it turns out I have some sort of scollioses...I'm not sure which form of it though....My spine is a curve of 25%.... [img]frown.gif[/img] yeah...& it turns out that I have to have a back brace. {I just can't get away from braces...First I had a finger brace because I hurt my finger, then I got braces on my teeth, and now one for my back. It's hopeless.... [img]frown.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/cry_smile.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img] }
Anyway, It's going to be a specially made brace. I am to wear it for 12 hours a day.. for 4 years..{as long as I've had my braces for my teeth. [img]eek.gif[/img] } I can either wear it for 12 hours during the day, or at night. I'm gonna try it first for the 12 hour day, & then at night to c which is more comforable & all...I have to wear it for 12 hours a day for 4 years..UNTILL I'M 18! OY [img]eek.gif[/img] ...Thursday, is when I have to go & get it fitted. I will have to wear a 2 pice bathing suite so that he can see my spine, & then he will make a cast for me so that my brace can be made. I'm just glad that I have something better to look forward to! A new dress for Samantha!
So, yeah. That's it for now. I'll let u all know how the appointment goes on Thursday!
Please pray for me! This is really hard & it's a struggle for me because well, like I said, I can't get away from braces. & it's really anoying for me because I JUST got my braces for my teeth off.... Thank u all for taking the time to read my post!

I know a girl who's in most of my classes- even my gym class(She takes it off then) who has a back brace. It's probily more common than you think. And the girl in my classes who has a brace I would have NEVER guessed! She had to tell me, it was a little hard too see. I'm sure you'll be fine.

That's got to be rough to deal with. I have to express my sympathy for you as I have a friend who can't even "just wear a brace". She's 16 and has had to have nose surgery and back surgery.
I am not trying to be mean, but one way of looking at it to keep it from being such an irksome situation is to think about it as a "doll stand".

That really stinks, especially at this age. Maybe it will comfort you to know, that you'll suffer less problems with your back later, when you wear the braces regulary now.
My hubby haves the same, but he never had the braces, therefore, he haves back-problems today - he'll be 29 next month, but he can't stand for longer time, he always needs to stay on the move, so to say, he can't sit for longer periods etc..
But try to figure out, what's the most comfy for you! Day or night. Both haves it's pros and contras.

Aww, I'm so sorry [img]frown.gif[/img] . I've been having back problems lately, too, and we think it's because of my backpack. I hope that the brace isn't too uncomfortable for you, and that your back problems cease to exist when this is all over [img]smile.gif[/img] .

There was a girl in my 9th grade class who had scoliosis (I think that's how it's spelled), and she had to have surgery, and be in a body cast for several months(flat on her back at home, with tutoring for schoolwork), and THEN wear a back brace.
I'm glad you don't have to have surgery, but I'm sorry about the brace. At least you don't have to wear it 24 hours a day! And you DO get to go shopping for more shirts-- [img]smile.gif[/img] .
With bigger shirts, your brace will hardly be noticed, and soon everyone will be used to it anyway, and think nothing of it. So don't worry about feeling conspicuous--your health is much more important, and treatment now will save you much trouble later on.

Yeah! I'm glad I can get new shirts! It's been a while since I've gotten new shirts, because I've been in the same shirts for YEARS! I don't grow out of my clothes for a REALLY & I mean REALLY long time!! I've had clothes since I was 10 or so, & I'm now 14! lol!!

I'm sorry to hear you have scoliosis. But just to encourage you, I have scoliosis. It's a double severe curve, shaped like a letter S with 45 degrees on the top curve and 47 on the bottom. My parents couldn't afford surgery when it was diagnosed when I was young so I've learned to live with the pain. I'm SO glad you are getting yours treated!!! That is the best thing ever. My niece had surgery for her scoliosis when she was 17 and she's doing fabulous. You'd never know she had such a major surgery.
